Introduction
The intro was great and it wasn’t just for show, they were able to maintain that fear throughout the entire movie. Call of the Dead uses loss of a loved one efficiently. It was a random watch for me while scrolling and man, it was worth it!
“Call of the Dead (2025), also known as Panggilan Dari Kubur, is an Indonesian horror film centered on Alya, a woman whose daughter, Yasmin, dies in a tragic drowning accident while on vacation. Buried in a cursed backyard, the child returns as a terrifying figure, forcing Alya to confront the horror of her childโs unnatural return.”
Dreaded Color
The whole movie, there’s sort of a pastel hue on the scenes colorgrading, and it gives you this sense of dread. Even though the scenes were happy and joyous, you can’t shake off the feeling that something is lurking.
Classic Ghost Portrayal
They made use of the usual ghost trope, but they did it exceptionally well. It didn’t feel cheezy or overused in any way. A classic portrayal done very well.
The Scares Were Enough
This holds so much more edge against modern American horror movies. Usually, modern horror movies rely on loud, sharp sounds, or senseless gore p0rn to get that shock factor. Call of the Dead uses different elements, big and small, it slowly adds that sense of dread and scares you inside out.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a good scare, a good storyline, and a plot that makes you think. Call of the Dead packs everything in. You won’t have to worry about those out of nowhere cheesy comedic remarks because this movies serves horror, and horror alone. This ties in my rating with another Indonesian horror titled May The Devil Take You.
