Introduction
One of those films you JUST CAN’T UNSEE. The brutality is comparable to that of “Human Centipede”, maybe even a far worse fate in my opinion. Directed by Kevin Smith.
“Tuskย (2014) is a body-horror film aboutย Wallace Bryton (Justin Long), a arrogant podcaster who travels to Canada and is kidnapped by Howard Howe (Michael Parks), a deranged recluse. Howe, obsessed with a walrus that saved his life, surgically transforms Wallace into a walrus using human skin and limbs.”
Justin Long (Wallace) have always been known to getting the short end of a stick. Jeepers Creepers is the best example of this. As laughable as it is, Long have always delivered his role. Projecting that fear, desperation and wanting to live, it affects the viewers in more ways than one.
Fun trivia: You could see Lily Rose-Depp as the Girl Clerk #2, she then went on to star in Nosferatu (2024).
Simple Story
The story and setting are pretty much in your face. An ad posted on a wall, a journalist eager to get that next big scoop, little does he know that he’ll be the one on the scoop. No surprising twists, just a complete downward spiral of our protagonist’s life.
Gruesome Costumes
The effects was gruesomeโฆ in a good way. Its what’s keeping me up late at night for a good couple of weeks. The images were ingrained deep in my mind and I just can’t shake it off.
Better than Human Centipede?
The reason I say that it might be more brutal than Human Centipede is because of the ending. The “procedure” itself and how it was shown, surely Human Centipede takes the win, but for the ending, I’d give it to tusk (except for those in the middle of the “train” in Human Centipede, if you know, you know).
Final Thoughts
Like I said, this is by far the worse fate someone could get, aside from dyingโand if you’ve seen this, you might consider getting offed instead of having this life. Highly recommended, though I myself couldn’t stomach to watch it again. The story and pacing was nice. Effects is awesome and really delivered a punch to its viewers. A great cult classic title.
