Introduction
Being entranced by an animation with no action scenes, no magic powers, no monsters, no end of the world scenarios is something that haven’t happened to me for a while.. until now. 100 Meters tackles heavily themes of Philosophy, coming-of-age, and the mental burden/stress of elite athletes. Carefully and beautifully told in this masterpiece of animation.
“100 Meters is an emotional sports anime film that follows the 15-year rivalry between Togashi, a gifted natural sprinter, and Komiya, a determined but initially unskilled runner. Spanning from childhood to adulthood, the story explores the personal, philosophical, and physical reasons why athletes dedicate their lives to a 10-second dash.”
Deep Characters
The story revolves around 2 friends, Togashi (voiced by Tรดri Matsuzaka) and Komiya (voiced by Shรดta Sometani). Their personalities are polar opposites yet they have something. The big difference they have is what drives the story forward. I can’t explain it in words, you have to see for yourself.
Mental Burden
100 Meters was able to show us what it takes to stand at the top. The number of things you would gain, and also the things you’re not prepared to lose. Using one elite athlete from the story, they beautifully told what it meant for them.
Deep Philosophical Sports Drama
At first, you’d think that winning is everything, heck! I think that way now. I don’t like to lose, I always give everything I do a 100% of what I can. The film will make you realize things and put everything in perspective for you. I won’t say anymore. This animation is a gem.
Final Thoughts
People need to watch this, specially those who are obsessed with winning that they give up their social life for it. 100 Meters reminds us that the efforts, struggles, losses, be it in sports, life, or business, is the euphoria that we crave. The reason why we always keep pushing. As long as you know why your doing what your doing, its enough to keep you going.
