Introduction
This was a good blind watch for me. Its one of those movies where you question your own sanity, believing what you see, hearing what you don’t see. Delirium is a pretty good psychological horror thriller and it makes you want to question yourself while watching it. Directed by Dennis Iliadis.
Characters
Topher Grace (as Tom) was great. He was able to display those kinds of mental breakdown that you’d really believe. Most people know him as being Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3, and even then, his demeanor was the same, the cold-blooded yet innocent look on his face was haunting in some ways.
Other supporting characters were great as well. Kudos to them and the casting director for picking a wide range of talents.
Plot is Overused
The story of someone with mental issues, and viewers get to see and decide for themselves whether its real or just hallucinations have been used many times over. Its just a matter of how it will be revealed, other than that, the plot of Delirium wasn’t intriguing. The theme of the movie also felt somewhat similar to Shutter Island (2010), do you know why is that? Its because its produced by Leonardo DiCaprio as well.
Slow Start
It was honestly a good watch in my opinion. Though you’d have to wait 15 to 20 minutes into the movie before things get going. Even when it started to move, it was a slow crawl.
Unrealistic
Don’t get me wrong, any sort of mental illness is not a joke. But the situation that this movie presents is far from realistic.
What I Didn’t Like
- Slow start
- Too many irrelevant scares
- Unrealistic circumstances
- Mediocre plot
Final Thoughts
Don’t have anything to watch tonight? Delirium is a good pick, honestly a good psychological horror thriller. It felt like a lovechild test version of The Shining and Shutter Island, but it never came close to any of those two.
