Introduction
Its one of those B-movies where it felt like it was done for a thesis project. Had they put more thought into the execution of it, polished the dialogue further, The Curse of the Necklace honestly had some potential. Directed by Juan Pablo Arias Munoz.
“Set in the 1960s, the horror film The Curse of the Necklace follows the Davis family as it falls prey to a malevolent supernatural force contained in an antique necklace. The terror is unleashed against the backdrop of an already strained family dynamic.”
Characters
The sisters Ellen and Judith Davis (voiced by the two real-life sisters Violet and Madeleine McGraw) had great on-screen chemistry and they worked very well. Complemented each other’s character traits and helped the audience feel more for them.
Mediocre B-Movie Effects
For a movie that came out recently, the effects were sucky and it was very hard to be surprised or get affected in any way. Though I’ll say that the effects were enough and served their purpose well, story-wise. Just not something I’d tell my friends about.
Uninteresting Dialogue
It was hard to listen to them, not in an audio level but the script and conversations were awkward. Their exchanges didn’t feel like it was driving the story forward, it felt like they were just running around in circles to prolong the run time of the movie.
What I Didn’t Like
- It was a mashup of the usual horror tropes that most of us have already seen and got tired of.
- Lazy title, Curse of the Necklace… Surely someone on their team have thought of something else but got rejected for some unknown stupid reason.
- Uninteresting dialogue and lack of chemistry between characters.
Final Thoughts
It was a meh movie. Curse of the Necklace is a mediocre level 90s B-movie horror, but not like those golden B-horrors like Braindead (1992). Dark Harvest (2023) was even more watchable than this.
