Synopsis
June Havens (Cameron Diaz) chats up her charming seatmate on a flight out of Kansas, but she doesn’t realize that she will soon land in the middle of an international adventure. The fellow passenger, Roy Miller (Tom Cruise), is a covert operative who claims he has been set up to take a fall. Now his reluctant partner, June must dodge bullets in Boston, leap rooftops in Austria and evade bulls in Spain, while she and Roy learn that trust is the most important survival skill.
Introduction
Knight and Day is like a charisma overload kind of a film. Pairing up Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz? The idea alone sold it for me, without even reading the synopsis or ratings of other viewers, its an instant watch kind of a film. Directed by James Mangold (Logan 2017, 3:10 To Yuma 2007, Walk the Line 2005, The Complete Unknown 2024)
When you hear Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible instantly pops in your head. All the actions scenes he’d done himself and his undeniable charm. Then Cameron Diaz’s name comes up, oops! Charlie’s Angels comes in your head. Her quirkiness and her smile is just captivating, couple that with Cruise’s qualities and you’ve got a fun, action-packed movie.
Characters
- Cruise have always been known to deliver, specially in terms of actions movies and romantic ones as well, and he doesn’t disappoint here. His character is this mysterious yet charming fellow, and he delivers that oh so well. Couldn’t have done it by other actors, well maybe Brad Pitt? Who knows?
- Cameron have always captured the hearts of all men (including me). Her character is fun and very charming, ever since Charlie’s Angels, she’s always had that role in a movie with that particular personality, and it just works. Even in Back in Action (2025), she still got it.
- Cruise and Cameron also had great chemistry, its like they can do a movie together without a script. Just throw them in there and let it blossom.
- Other characters were great as well, kudos to them, specially to Simon Feck (played by Paul Dano).
Pure action-comedy
All throughout Knight and Day, the vibe is fun and edgy at the same time. Its literally an action-comedy movie. It was hilarious and nothing felt forced, which was great because everything flowed naturally.
Too fast paced?
I guess my only quarrel about this was it moved too fast most of the time. Too many time jumps, though they were able to portray it properly without the viewers getting lost. Cruise’s character was also introduced rather quickly and we never really understood who he was, thus preventing us from getting attached to his character.
Conclusion
Knight and Day is definitely a great comfort movie. Fun and action packed to watch with the family. Memorable funny moments and great comic timing. Amazing actions scenes coupled with great cinematography. If you haven’t watched this yet, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Its up on Netflix right now!
