Afflicted

afflicted 1

Read Time: 3 minutesTwo best friends see their trip of a lifetime take a dark turn when one of them is mysteriously afflicted. Now, in a foreign land, they race to uncover the source before it consumes him completely.

The Black Phone

black phone 1

Read Time: 3 minutesFor the hype that it garnered, and for a film that featured Ethan Hawke, I was expecting more from it honestly, specially after watching "Sinister". It had a good thing going on, but felt weak on the storytelling. It's a good psychological horror flick, not great.

Outside

outside

Read Time: 3 minutesOutside was a big step for Filipino films, the direction and production was very well done. It was also a pleasure to see them not going the conservative route. There were some gore moments and was done tastefully. Looking forward to more Filipino-made films that aren't afraid to take chances.

Nightbreed (Cabal Cut)

nighbredd

Read Time: 3 minutesThis is an adaptation of (a part of) Clive Barker's sixth volume from Books of Blood. Barker's monsters have always been ahead of their time. The creature design, voice, and personality set them apart. They have a unique background history. This history explains how they came to be, most, if not all, unless I'm mistaken.

The Wild Robot

The Wild Robot poster

Read Time: 4 minutesDreamWorks have done it again. The Wild Robot is one of those films that I would definitely recommend for the coming years with enthusiasm. It definitely struck a chord with me and I'll never forget that. It was a genuine cinematic experience.

The Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries poster

Read Time: 3 minutesThe music score was perfect, really gives off that zero to hero Princess vibes. When they shot the ending scene with the view of Genovia and then "Miracles Happen" by Myra started to play in the background, it was an icing on a cake; it captures the essence and emotion of the film and sums up the whole story.

A Moment to Remember

A Moment to Remember poster

Read Time: 3 minutesThis has been one of my most memorable blind watch experience, it really caught me off guard as these aren't the kind of films I watch—now every time someone asks for a drama/love story film, this is the only one that comes to mind. Definitely recommending this film, I'm actually surprised that there were few mentions of this on threads and forums.

Cannibal Holocaust

Read Time: 2 minutesThis film about cannibalism sparked controversy across the globe, banned in over 50 countries, ironically not because of cannibal, but because of real animal cruelty. Honestly, I had to watch around 5-6 gory films and Cannibal Ferox to top it all off before going into this one, just so I'd be desensitized a bit; and yes, I watched the 96 minutes uncut version.

Greenland

Greenland poster

Read Time: 3 minutesThe way they showed the scale of the disaster was not as large as how they did it in "2012", this was mostly shown from their perspective, some aerial shots, mostly on land, but not as large of a scale. They were able to answer that issue though through news reports that were shown throughout the film.

The Thing

The Thing poster

Read Time: 3 minutesAnother entry into John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy, together with Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness, this sci-fi/horror classic is peak movie magic with the use of practical effects.

Prince of Darkness

Prince of Darkness poster

Read Time: 3 minutesA group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister in an abandoned church, but when they open the container, they inadvertently unleash a strange liquid and an evil force of darkness on all humanity.

Martyrs

Read Time: 3 minutesThis isn't for everyone, specially for those who've had traumatic experiences in the past, best to avoid this; but this is considered to be a masterpiece in French horror. Midsommar is another foreign film I'd recommend.

War Of The Worlds

war of the worlds poster

Read Time: 3 minutesThe ending of War Of The Worlds, at first seemed like a shortcut, production-wise, reminded me of "The Mist" but not as dark, and it did make sense. The reason was simple yet it encompasses everything that has happened so far in the story, it was properly paced, and the timing for that extra dramatic effect was on point as well. It was very well done.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

LEAGUE

Read Time: 4 minutesThe League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is like a bookworm's film fantasy come true. Most of the iconic novel characters coming together to defeat one super villain. It sounds cheesy, yes it is. Its really cool, specially if you've watched it when it came out.

Cannibal Ferox

Can. Ferox.x scaled

Read Time: 2 minutesThe film is leaning more towards animal cruelty than cannibalism. In my opinion, they use this method to show how edgy their film is, and add some shock value into it, all for the purpose of entertainment.

Errementari

errementari fotograma

Read Time: 3 minutesIn my opinion, Errementari is incredibly underrated, deserving much more recognition for its artistry and impact than it currently receives. It’s a hidden gem that offers a fresh perspective on familiar themes, making it a must-watch for anyone who appreciates thoughtful cinema.

Pearl

Pearl scene

Read Time: 2 minutes"Pearl" was definitely better than "X" in all aspects in my opinion. The history and lore of the villain really made me interested and it didn't disappoint. Definitely recommending this one for modern slasher fans.
